Developing our Vision
As far back as 1997, the St. Peter's community recognized that the Parish House that contains our kitchen, fellowship, hall, and classroom and meeting space was inhibiting the ability of our ministries to develop and meet the needs of our community. The building design made access for those with disabilities difficult to address. The building itself was showing signs of reaching the end of its useful life.
In 2007, a plan was developed to replace the Parish House with a new structure that would meet our ministry needs. Unfortunately, the cost of construction based on the building design and desired construction techniques made the proposal cost-prohibitive. The Great Recession of 2008 put further development efforts on the back burner. Yet, the dream never faded.
In Spring 2016, the St. Peter's community began a visioning process to look at those plans with fresh eyes and assess the congregation's current needs. Through surveys and interviews, our community told us 99% of our congregation believed that now is the time to take action.
We then developed pros and cons of refurbishing the existing parish house or building a new structure and asked the congregation for their feedback. A survey involving two-thirds of the membership in May 2016 revealed that 90% of the respondents favored replacing the Parish House with a new building that will include a parish hall, kitchen, and meeting rooms. You can review the summary, full report, and frequently asked questions in the links below.
We then implemented the second phase of our building effort to develop proposals for moving forward to present to Vestry and the congregation in Fall 2017. On September 10, 2017 representatives of the planning teams presented the building and campaign plans to the congregation during fellowship hours following each of the services. The Crossroads section of the website lays out our plan.
