Icons have been used in Christian Worship and personal prayer for more than 1500 years, yet they are not art. They are seen as portals between heaven and earth and are written using a visual language rather than a textual language to convey the Word made flesh. Icons have been an increasing part of Anglican worship. This class will talk about the origins of icons, how to “read” them, and look at specific examples of the most popular styles. Join us between services each Sunday in Lent for a cup of coffee and a brief look through these Windows to Heaven.
